Twitter Q & A: Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio

Last week, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, took some time out to answer fan questions on Twitter under the hashtag #AskAshleigh. Below is a summary of some of the questions.

@gabiriakopa What do you think about not including Emakumeen Bira (you were 2nd) in Women´s World Tour?
@ashleighcycling : it is a real pity Bira is not included in the WWT in 2016, but I hope that as the WWT grows from year to year hopefully Bira will be included in the future

@ossa123 Will you be back in the UK for the Aviva Tour in 2016?
I really did miss the Aviva Tour this year, so I do hope to be back next year. It all depends if it fits into my preparation for the Rio Games. I haven’t finalised my plans for next year yet

@sinettte What are you most afraid of during a race and how do you fight against it?
Fear is one of the most limiting of all emotions, so as a professional athlete, it is important to do our best to eliminate fear as much as possible. The more we gain experience and confidence, the less we fear. Another way to eliminate fear in races is to race in the moment, and not to think too much about what could happen.

@RomanoBoshove what’s your favorite type of race And where do you want to improve next season. Btw the SA jersey is so great
My favourite races are Strade Bianche and Flèche Wallonne. I love these one day classics because the course is hard and after a hard race, they finish up steep climbs. I’d really like to improve my performance in the TT

@ValenteMasiello Is there anybody that significantly inspired and influenced your riding style?
I can’t say that I have imitated anyone else’s style. But my husband @CarlPasio has definitely inspired and influenced me to optimise and improve my own riding style based on my riding strengths.

@PurpleSpokes whats the biggest change u have seen in women’s cycling as it becomes more popular/prominent?
The strength/level of women’s peloton keeps increasing from year to year. Teams are becoming more professional and the support and interest we receive has grown hugely!

@motorcycleMTNS Hi Ashleigh, do you have any songs that get you motivated? Any by Madonna works for me!
At the moment my favourite song to get motivated is by an Italian artist Fedez, the song is called Magnifico

@AlexaLicata Do you like the mountain stages of women cycling or would you like something harder?
I like the mountain stages of the Giro Donne, but I think some of the other tours could include harder climbs

@Roymyboy in your opinion where is the best place in Europe to ride? For a non European.
Girona province, Catalunya is most amazing place in EU to ride. So many beautiful quiet roads, climbs & coast line. many pro cyclists base themselves there for this reason. It is a must do for non European cycling enthusiasts

@raffilpt What do you think about Marion Rousse’s job change? Would you do it?
I wish her all the best! I would not give up my career yet as I still have many goals & ambitions in pro cycling

@Cubed120 What is the best part about the bunch sprints at the end of each race?
I’m not a fan of bunch sprints. I prefer a reduced bunch after a hard race. Bunch sprints are very chaotic especially when you are a small and light rider.

@RickyCadel95 Does it mean more, for you, to win the Giro Rosa or the Worlds?
I’m very passionate about Giro Rosa, but I must admit if I had to choose, I would choose Rainbow for a year

@koalaagainstyou which men’s road race would you like to ride?
I’d like a women’s version of Amstel Gold race. It is a very exciting race and I like the short, hard climbs
